UCI ENT RESIDENCY |Underrepresented in medicine student rotation scholarship

The Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at University of California, Irvine welcomes current fourth year and late third year medical students, who are planning careers in Otolaryngology and are from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine (URiM), to apply for a 4-week acting internship rotation.

The scholarship program aims to encourage the active participation of URiM students within our department and patient community. The department and institution share a mission to promote inclusive excellence by recruiting and supporting a wide array of physicians who can serve a diverse patient population and enable our local community to thrive.

Accepted applicants will receive a $2500 stipend to cover living and travel expenses.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Application requirements:

  • Current MS4 or late MS3 in good standing at an LCME approved US Medical School
  • Applicant self-identifies as a student URiM as defined by the AAMC
  • Complete Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) application
  • CV (PDF)
  • Personal statement (500 word maximum, PDF)
  • Letter of recommendation from an Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery faculty mentor (PDF)

Submission Deadline: June 9, 2023

NOTE: The $2500 scholarship will be disbursed in two parts: half of the amount at the beginning of the rotation and the remaining half after the successful completion of the rotation. An email will be sent to you and copied to your clerkship/medical school director.
