UCI ENT Residency | Letter to Applicants

Dear Prospective Resident:

As the Program Director for the UC Irvine Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program, I want to thank you for your interest in our program. We are proud of our residency program, largely because of the individuals that comprise it. As such, we truly enjoy the process of meeting and evaluating our resident applicants each year. The past two years (2020-2022) have been uniquely demanding for all, and the residency match process similarly has presented multiple challenges to both applicants and programs. We learned a lot in 2020 and 2021 about the virtual interview process and are looking forward to applying those lessons to the upcoming application process. We are committed and eager to get to know our applicants this year and to highlight for you what makes our program great

We currently have 12 residents across the 5 years of training. Our program offers a supportive learning environment created by both the residents and the faculty. Orange County is the 6th largest county in the United States, and UC Irvine is its only academic medical center. As such, trainees have the opportunity to work with an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse population. In addition to working at the UCI Health academic medical center, affiliate hospitals include Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Kaiser Permanente, and the Long Beach VA Medical Center. Also, our residents have access to work with volunteer faculty in private practices throughout Orange County.

Together, these experiences allow our residents to complete a comprehensive clinical and surgical education that covers all of the core subspecialties within ENT. At UC Irvine, there is no doubt you will be exposed to a broad variety of healthcare practice types with diverse patient populations and delivery models. We are obviously biased, but Orange County is also a pretty idyllic location to train in for 5 years!

We hope you get a feel for our program on our website and by following us on Twitter and Instagram.
